Fears that it could cause injury or death have led to major retailers removing a popular item for children from their shelves.
A popular item for children has been removed from shelves due to fears it could cause fatalities.
All sizes of Caprice Australia’s light up thongs have been recalled from Big W due to concerns about a potentially deadly defect with the product.
The eight varieties of thongs are made from designs by beloved brands such as Barbie, Star Wars, Frozen and L.O.L Surprise! OMG and Minecraft.
The defect stems out of two button batteries included in the product. Authorities were concerned that the compartment containing them could be exposed over time and make it possible to access the batteries.
This could lead to serious injuries or even death for children as they could be exposed to the battery’s internal components.
Young children are also at risk from the button batteries.
The thongs were available online and nationally for almost two years, from September 2020 to May 20,22.
Customers are advised to stop wearing thongs immediately and to return them at any Big W store in Australia to receive a full refund.
